Ministries
Brook Park Community Church of the Brethren has many ministries reaching out to different groups at our church.
Sunday School
Sunday School is provided every Sunday morning from 9:15-10:15am during the school year (the week after Labor Day through the week before Memorial Day). For the 2010-2011 school year, we are introducing an exciting new format for preschool through adult classes. Each week we will rotate through a new activity, going through lesson and skits, crafts, and music, all following the Christian Calendar. There will be three groups: preschool-6th, 7th-12th, and adult. Please join us to learn about Jesus Christ and build your faith as a Christian at Sunday School this year!
Community Garden
The community garden was built in spring 2010 to provide fresh, healthy vegetables to our church community and area families in need. A large plot of land now has raised garden boxes with a gated entrance to keep animals out. We have fed several families from our bountiful community garden, and during clothing giveaways the garden has been much appreciated by local families.
Youth Group (ages 4-14)
Pastor Dan and his wife Harmony are leading a fun youth group every Sunday after church for kids ages 4-14. The youth group brings a song, skit, or other project to worship to share with the congregation once every month or two. All are welcome, and during the school year, lunch is provided for the kids. Join us next Sunday!
Jr/Sr High Youth Group
The Jr and Sr High Youth Groups have recently changed leadership, and new, exciting programs are in store for the group. The youth group attends district and annual Church of the Brethren youth conferences, and holds several fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds for these trips.
Family Game Night
The Deacons sponsor a Family Game Night on a regular basis. These evenings are an opportunity for families in the church to join together for fellowship and fun in a safe, Christ-centered environment. Participating families bring potluck food items and several activities are provided for all ages.
Men's Fellowship
The Men's Fellowship meets once a month for a breakfast together on Saturday mornings. They also help sponsor meals and service days related to the upkeep of the church, and they provide a hearty breakfast for carnival workers during the annual Brook Park Home Days.
Women's Bible Study
The women's bible study meets every other Monday evening at a local retirement home. The women meet to focus on the word of God and grow in their Christian faiths. All are welcome and can join the study at any time.
Breakfast Bunch
The breakfast bunch meets once a month for a weekday breakfast of fellowship and good eats at a local restaurant.
Community Cupboard
The community cupboard, supported by the Deacons and church members, is a pantry of non-perishable food items available to anyone in need (inside and outside the church membership). Members of the church keep the pantry supplied with new food items on a regular basis, and it is frequently used by those in need.
Clothing Giveaway (Audrey's Closet)
Audrey's Closet has been active for several years at the church. We are currently in the process of making plans for an out-building to serve this ministry and others. On several Saturdays throughout the year, donated clothing is given away to area families in need. During summer months, fresh vegetables from the Community Garden are made available to the families attending the clothing giveaway, as well.
Church Choir
The church choir provides worship through song at each Sunday morning service and for special holiday services during the school year. It is directed by Matt Stone and meets immediately following worship service for a one-hour practice. The choir also provides a Cantata for the yearly Good Friday service. All are welcome to join anytime!
Praise Team
The praise team provides contemporary worship music for both the morning and evening Sunday services. The praise team has grown in the past few years to include guitars, bass, keyboard, and vocals. They practice weekly before the Sunday School hour, and are led by Bill Jay.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is held yearly in August. Here, volunteers and kids meet in the evenings for an entire week to learn the word of God, make friends, and have fun. All kids are invited to attend our VBS program.
Helping Hands
The Helping Hands ministry identifies needs inside the community, and then works to meet those needs by helping out.
We also support several ministries outside the church.
Heifer International
Heifer's mission is to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and to care for the earth. Their strategy is to "pass on the gift," and provide families with a source of food to expand their dignity and self-reliance around the globe. Heifer has helped millions of families worldwide since its inception more than 65 years ago.
Camp Inspiration Hills
Inspiration Hills is a Christian Campground located in Burbank Ohio, and is owned by the Northern Ohio District Church of the Brethren. The mission of Inspiration Hills is to provide a set apart place in nature where people of all ages can grown in the awareness of God and deepen their commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Berea Children's Home
Berea Children's Home and Family Services provides mental and behavioral services for the community's most vulnerable children and their families. Brook Park Brethren supports this organization through an annual collection of winter hats and gloves for the children at Berea Children's Home.
